Sometimes heroes don’t wear capes. Sometimes heroes are the people around us fighting a battle we don’t even know about because they do it with such bravery and grace.
For many, that person is Erin McAneney.
“Erin is an inspiration to us all. She’s not only a fighter of childhood cancer but also advocates for all of us children battling cancer. The fact that she still can smile through all of this shows a lot,” said Kaely Kwitek, founder of Kaely’s Kindness.
Erin has been fighting Ewing’s Sarcoma for over three years. She has been an inspiration to many as she turns to her Facebook page Erin Fights Ewings to share her story of hope and bravery. No matter what obstacles come Erin’s way, she fights Ewing’s Sarcoma with a positive attitude and optimism in her heart.
“I’ve been privileged to meet Erin through Make-A-Wish. Her courageous and fierce attitude towards life is empowering. She fights her illness head on and inspires others while doing so. I’m forever grateful to know her and I encourage Western New York to join her in the fight against the monster that is cancer,” said Kate Glaser, marketing manager at Make-a-Wish WNY.
Unfortunately Erin’s cancer has spread and her last chance for a miracle is a clinical trial she is trying at Mary Crowley Cancer Institute in Dallas, Texas. Erin has to stay in Dallas incase she has adverse effects and needs to be monitored. This will be financially taxing on her family, as she will have to stay in Texas for a year. Her friends and family are reaching out to the community for support.
“I haven’t known Erin for long, but time truly was insignificant compared to the lasting admiration, awe and inspiration she left me with. Erin is a radiant light and she shines on all those she touches. It is not only her obvious beauty but the spark inside of her, that after all she has been through, is still fiercely lit. She faces her challenges with such positivity, determination and hope. Honestly as ugly, cruel and tough as cancer is, I do believe what is inside of Erin may just be tougher. I am honored to know and love her,” said Lisa Cretacci, friend.
