A 10-year-old North Tonawanda girl is trying to heal after losing her mother in a tragic accident last week and now her family wants to let the community know she’s going to be OK.

“We are going to do everything in our power to make sure our daughter has a normal life now. Her well-being is our main priority,” said Keith Breisch, father.

On the evening of Thursday, March 8, Michelle Breisch of North Tonawanda was trying to get her car unstuck from a snowbank in an alleyway off Oliver Street. She asked her daughter, Starleana, to get in the driver’s seat while she tried to push the car out and the young lady accidentally hit the accelerator. Her mother was pronounced dead at the scene. Starleana is now in the custody of her father and stepmother, April, who are trying to return her life to normalcy the best they can. She went back to school on Monday and her stepmom says her teachers and administrators are making the transition as comfortable as possible for her.

“The school district has been amazing,” said April. “They are letting her stay in the district until the end of the year.”

As can be expected this is an extremely difficult time for Starleana, but Keith says he and his wife are going to do everything they can to keep her mother’s memory alive for her. They helped Starleana start a memorial for her at the scene and neighbors added on to it.

“It was important for us to take her back and show her everything was not the way it was that night. That things are going to be OK and that we are going to be here for her every step of the way,” said Keith.

The family would like to thank everyone for the continued outpour of support during this difficult time. Starleana looks forward to living with her dad and stepmom and her 1-year-old sister, Jaina, who she adores.

A benefit will be held for the family 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Gratwick Fireside Pub in North Tonawanda. A GoFundMe page has also been created to help Starleana financially during this difficult time. More information can be found here: www.gofundme.com/helpstar1
