A local family-owned and operated business is going above and beyond to see that homeowners are able to enjoy their backyard this summer without those pesky insects and mosquitos and they say the time to get started is now.
“An adult mosquito will be active when the temperatures are consistently above 50 degrees and although we may not think we are there, we really are there. Untreated breeding sites will lead to adult mosquitos that start the chain of events,” said Scott Franasiak, co-owner of Mosquito Joe.
Mosquito Joe, based out of North Tonawanda, serves Erie and Niagara Counties. Owned by Franasiak and his wife, Kathlene, and operated by their children, the business has helped bring the fun back to backyards for the past four years. Mosquitos and other insects can put a real damper on the party when guests are constantly swatting them away. “It’s really been rewarding to hear from customers what sort of impact we’ve made on their life. It almost sounds silly to say spraying for mosquitos has an impact on someone’s life, but we have customers that for the first time ever they were able to use their backyard. It seems crazy that someone has a backyard that they aren’t able to use or go out to because they are swarmed by mosquitos, but it happens, and we’re glad we can relieve them of this stress,” said Franasiak.
When calling Mosquito Joe for help with ridding a backyard of mosquitos, ticks, and fleas, the first person a customer will speak to is Franasiak’s knowledgable and friendly daughter, Karlene. Karlene will walk customers through the process of Mosquito Joe’s services and set them up with an appointment. Customers will receive a 24-48 hour notice via email of when an experienced technician will be arriving at the home. When the services are completed, there is a one-hour drying period where no people or pets should be in the backyard. After that, the backyard is theirs to enjoy.
“All of our technicians are fully trained. We go through an intensive training process and they are all under the supervision of my son and I who are certified by the NYSDEC. Being a family business, it’s important who we send out. Karlene and the office staff are the voice of the company and our technicians are the face of the company. It’s important that our technicians present themselves well, know what to spray and what not to spray, and also communicate with customers and answer any questions that a customer might have,” said Franasiak.
Mosquito Joe is very grateful for the support of their loyal customers, for without them, they wouldn’t be so successful. Karlene says it’s a pleasure getting to know their clients and she takes great pride in seeing that they are well satisfied with the business’ services.
“I love our customers. I can genuinely say when I get on the phone with our customers I know whats going on with all of them. I can ask about their graduation, how their surgery went, how their winter went. One of the stories I remember best is one woman was so happy with our services, but said she was caught off guard because she went to a baseball game and and didn’t bring any bug spray with her. She said, ‘Mosquito Joe, why can’t you come everywhere with me?’ That’s what I love to hear.”
