Local Zumbini class gives children and parents a chance to bond with music, dancing and fun

You’ve probably tried Zumba before and if you haven’t, you’ve probably heard of it…but one new program has come to WNY that you may not be so familiar with – Zumbini.

“It’s a high energy class for kids that is really dependent upon parent participation,” said Jody Hares, Zumbini certified instructor. “It’s an early childhood and music program, but it has a Zumba flair and we make it just as fun for the parents as we do for the kids.”

Hares, a fitness instructor and mother of two, was immediately fascinated with Zumbini upon learning about it. She received her Zumbini certification in 2017 and held her first official session in September.

“I’ve been singing and dancing with my kids since they were babies and that’s how I was able to relate to them. Knowing there was a class I could actually teach parents to do the same thing  sounded amazing. Zumbini encourages early language skills and helps parents really bond with their baby.”

So what can you expect at a Zumbini session? Well besides a lot of fun, Hares 8-week sessions include playing with musical instruments, singing, laughing, smiling, and of course, dancing. Participants will also receive course materials to take home so families can continue the fun after class is done.

“Zumbini really gets kids and their parents out of their shell. Children learn repetition through the songs and I’ve had a few children who started the 8-week session that wouldn’t move from mom’s lap. But, by the end of the 8-weeks, they were sitting on my lap and jumping and dancing all around with the rest of us. That’s really what this program is all about.”

Hares says she also uses the Zumbini program outside of class to encourage her children to brush their teeth, put on their shoes, or even eat their breakfast by changing the words to Zumbini songs to make the tasks a little less boring and a lot more fun!

“It also makes them so excited to go to class when they’ve been listening to the songs at home. They can’t wait to show everyone what they’ve learned,” she said.

The spring Zumbini session is sold out, but keep an eye out for a six week summer session to be announced soon! Visit www.zumbini.com and search Depew, NY to find Jody’s classes. She’s also proud to announce she has partnered with Canalside Buffalo to host three free Zumbini sessions at Canalside 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, Monday, July 30, and Monday, Aug. 27.

For more information on Zumbini, visit www.zumbini.com or email jodyhares@hotmail.com. Zumbini is for children ages 0-4. Anyone is welcome to get in touch if they would like to pop in for a trial Zumbini class.
