NT Post Office employee remembered for bringing a warm smile and friendly conversation to many

If you've ever walked into the North Tonawanda Post Office on Payne Avenue, you've probably met one postal employee in particular who brightened your day with a big smile and friendly conversation. That man was Don Delinger.

If you’ve ever walked into the North Tonawanda Post Office on Goundry Street you’ve probably met one postal employee in particular who brightened your day with a big smile and friendly conversation.

That man was Don Delinger.

I’ve always hated going to the post office because of the long lines and also because I never know what I’m doing. (They can send you to college, but they can’t make you learn how to mail a package). Don always made me feel at ease when I had a package that I didn’t know what to do with and he never let me pay a penny too much. He’d always lead me in the right direction and make me put my priority mail sticker back, so I wasn’t charged an arm and a leg. And I know I’m not the only one. That helpfulness and kind demeanor is what many remember about Don who recently passed away.

“So sad to hear of of Don’s passing… he was a staple at the post office window… remembered everyone’s names, and always had a smile on his face…. had some good conversations with him.”

– Daniel Klaes

So very sorry to hear this… half the fun of going to the NT Post Office was getting help from him for my packages… and he always had the big international stamps ready for my letters to Canada… Thanks for everything, Don. You will be missed.

– Patricia Ellen Powers

“He was sooo sweet! He helped me send care packages to my daughter and son-in-law stationed in JapanHe was the main reason I went there…. deepest sympathy to his family… he spoke so often of them and the places where he’s visited….”

– Susan Di Nezza

“I know he always brightened my day! And always gave the kids stickers , Bradley loved it!”

— Sandra Capozzi

“I’m very sad to read this. He made an impression on me with his wonderfully dry sense of humour. He showed me Janis Joplin and Hendrix stamps.”

– KL Peezy

“He was my favorite reason to go to the post office! Such a sweet soul! You will be missed, Don.”

– Erin O’Connor

“We would always chat when I would mail my son cookies. Last time I was there, I brought him a batch, too. He was tickled. Always so nice to talk to.”

— Becky Billi

“He was truly personable. He always helped me fill out the customs papers when sending packages to my brother in Iraq.”

– Scott Bruning

“Everytime I came to the post office he always had a smile on his face,he helped me pick out stamps and mailes my save the dates for my wedding. He was always willing to help me out with whatever I had stopped in for! Sad to hear this news,Heaven gained a sweet angel. Rest In Peace.”

— Abby Dominico

“He always brought me a bit of joy in what would normally be a pretty menial daily task! What a loss. Sending love and light to his family.”

– Stephanie Brochey Zarbo

Fly high with the angels, Don.
