Many of us wonder what can we do to help a friend who just went through breast cancer? Not going through it ourselves, it’s hard to know the right answer, but what if you could treat them to a beautiful evening out? On Oct. 27 you can do just that at the For Our Daughters Fundraiser Gala held at Adams Mark Hotel.
“Each year we like to make it so no breast cancer survivor has to pay for their gala tickets,” said Mercedes Wilson, founder of For Our Daughters.
So how does it work? Well, people like me and you donate their tickets. Once the tickets are donated, Wilson puts a call out to breast cancer survivors and they respond to be put on the guest list.
“Last year we were able to donate 64 tickets thanks to the City of Good Neighbors,” said Wilson. “This year our goal is 60 tickets.”
“These galas mean so much to For Our Daughters because this is a big part of how we continue to do what we do. Live band, sit down dinner, silent auction, raffles and a whole lot of fun. We take time to honor breast cancer survivors as well. The For Our Daughters’ mission is to empower young women on how to advocate for their own health and wellness, but we don’t forget where we came from. Without my battle with breast cancer when I was 28, we would not exist! So we honor survivors while using our young women to advocate for themselves to prevent having to experience what any survivor had to,” continued Wilson.
Wilson said it would be simply amazing to see the Buffalo and WNY communities come together to donate tickets for breast cancer survivors. This is a black tie event, so survivors get to have a night out and dress up.
“For some this is the first time since their cancer that they get a night about them, so this is cherished,” said Wilson.
To sponsor a breast cancer survivor, donate $75 to For Our Daughter and put in the notes (survivor ticket(s)). You can do so here: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr
