As I write this, a few tears fall down my eyes. A little boy who we’ve come to know these past few months, a boy who has brought inspiration, love and kindness to so many, left this world today, but the impact he leaves in our hearts will not.
I remember the first time I met Sebastian. We surprised him with Sweet Buffalo Rocks that community members painted for him across Western New York. He was so happy and appreciative to receive this gift even though he didn’t know what the rocks were, he was thankful that someone cared to do something nice for him.
I then had the honor of watching Sebastian get surprised by Santa Claus right before Christmas. Santa showed up on a sleigh of horses and carried his big sack full of presents to his front door. I remember Sebastian saying “I’m so happy I could cry.” He was never shy about showing his emotions which is what I liked about him most.
Fast forward a little while later and even though Sebastian wasn’t feel well, he still wanted to help other kids who were sick. He started Sebastian’s Lego Club to collect legos for sick children in the hospital. He even waited tables at a local restaurant to collect donations. No matter how he felt, it was important to him to make someone else smile.
I cried a little tonight thinking this would be the last story I write about Sebastian…but then I realized it doesn’t have to be the last. I promise to write about my sweet friend and tell his story for many years to come. You will always be remembered, Sebastian, and we are all so lucky we had the chance to get to know you.
