“We want girls to come into our boutique so we can show them how easy retro style can be and make them feel great about themselves,” said Julie Ann Davis, owner of Cat Like Us.
Cat Like Us, located at 67 Main Street, Tonawanda, has been in business for seven years. Julie Ann and her husband, Andrew, decided to take a chance on their unique retro clothing store after attending a festival called Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender. They were so impressed with the vintage style clothing they saw that they decided to bring it to their hometown.
“There was nothing like it in Buffalo or really anywhere in Western New York, so we wanted to give our neighbors the opportunity to enjoy this style clothing as much as we did,” said Andrew.
What started out as an online clothing business and small boutique has turned into so much more. While the couple hoped their clothing choices would appeal to a certain taste, they quickly realized that all kinds of people were interested in Cats Like Us fashion and not just people who enjoy the retro era. People are looking for something different, and retro brings a classic style with updates of today.
“The support of the community has been amazing and it’s been great to meet new people who just so happen to come into our store by accident and then find something they love for themselves. The beautiful thing about retro clothing is that it’s flattering to all shapes and sizes. Women have the opportunity to feel comfortable in their own skin when they wear our clothing and to me, that’s been one of the best parts about owning this shop,” said Julie Ann.
When a woman comes into Cats Like Us, Julie Ann knows exactly what style dress, shirt, or skirt would most flatter her. The thing about retro is that it’s classic, so it never goes out of style. Between fit and flare dresses, cardigans, suspender shorts, rompers, halter tops, and more, there’s so many ways to add a bit of retro to any look.
“We can outfit anybody,” Julie Ann said. “You don’t have to be a vintage fanatic to appreciate what we have to offer here. We carry a lot of gorgeous styles that you can wear to a wedding or a special event and truly steal the show. And, if you found something online and would prefer to try it on here, we always welcome that. If it doesn’t fit, we will find you something else. We just want to see our customers feel great about themselves because that’s how shopping should feel.”
