West Seneca family loses everything in fire, community asked to help

The family is lucky to be alive and made it out safely, but only with the clothes on their backs.

On Saturday, Jan. 6, Kip Palmateer, an athletic trainer at West Seneca East High School, and his family lost everything in a house fire in Colden.

“Over the weekend East Senior’s athletic trainer’s house caught fire and he lost everything. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help he and his family during their time of need. He truly does so much for our student athletes. Please consider making a donation,” said the school district in a Facebook post.

According to the donation page, the wood stove caught their house on fire and destroyed everything. The family is lucky to be alive and made it out safely, but only with the clothes on their backs.

Family and friends are now asking for the community’s help. More than $12,500 has been raised so far, but as the Palmateers will have to start from scratch, every bit helps. If you would like to make a donation, visit www.gofundme.com/helping-the-palmateer-family
