Elysa Maurer Duncan has been battling cancer since she was 7 years old. She was only given a few months to live after learning she had a Wilms Tumor, but she bravely underwent a specialized treatment which gave her 21 years of a normal life.
She grew into a beautiful woman and married a wonderful man. And over a year ago, the couple had their biggest blessing yet, a baby girl.
But shortly after this miracle, Duncan received the terrible news that she had cancer again. She has already undergone three surgeries at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester to repair her only kidney and remove the tumor. She is currently in Houston, Texas receiving treatment from the same doctor who treated her when she was a little girl.
“This disease has taken her away from her husband, her baby, her job, and her life as she knew it,” said Laura Forton, aunt.
A Miracles for Elysa benefit will be held 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 24 at South Transit Fire Company, 5666 South Transit Road, Lockport. Proceeds will go towards helping the family financially at this difficult time. Treatment is not covered under FDA and it’s costing the family $17,000 a month.
“We are asking for your help to Make Miracles for Elysa happen again and give her a chance to watch baby Lillian grow up. She needs her mom around to help her get ready for graduation,” said Forton.
