Boys see color for the first time thanks to generous community!

This week was a very special week for two boys who were given the gift of color this holiday season. Billy Kusnierczak and Gavin Ickowski are both color blind. Their school, Royalton-Harlton Elementary, and the community knew how badly they wanted to see the colors of Christmas lights, so they came together to raise money for glasses that would enable to see color for the first time in their lives!

A card given to Billy read, “Billy, We hope these glasses help you see Christmas in a way you never have. Love, Your Community Who Loves You Very Much. Merry Christmas!”

Billy and Gavin were surprised at their school by Santa Claus who gifted them with enchroma glasses. Billy’s mom said he always wanted to see a red fire truck so fire trucks were on site so the two boys could enjoy seeing the color and bright lights!

“We received a call saying he was getting an award today after they came back from caroling… the fire trucks all pulled up and then the kids walked up. Santa gave Billy and Gavin each a gift. The card will make you cry…. and then to see that our entire community came together to allow the boys to see Christmas in a way they NEVER have before…we are beyond blessed to be a part of such a special community with the most amazing people I have ever met,” said Erin Kusnierczak, Billy’s Mom.

Gavin’s mom, Kellie Ickowski, agreed.

“It was absolutely breathtaking. We have an amazing community and school district to give this gift to Gavin and Billy. Because of this it’s truly a magical Christmas!”

Billy’s mom decided to take her son to the brightest house in the area. She messaged the owner to let him know how Billy’s experience was and he was touched.

“Hi Paul, my name is Erin. Today my family and I came to look at your beautiful Christmas lights.
I really wanted to let you know why this meant so very much to myself and my family! My 9-year-old son is severely colorblind. Today we were surprised at school when my son and a classmate of his were given a special gift… glasses that allow them to see color! Our community and school raised money and purchased these glasses for the boys! Today my son was able to see color for the first time! I couldn’t think of a better place to show him exactly how beautiful Christmas light are. He was amazed when we pulled up to your house tonight. It was truly a magical moment and one we will NEVER forget!!
Thank you so much for the joy you bring to so many that come to see your beautiful Christmas lights. This was an experience we will never forget and one I am sure he will want to visit year after year!”

This Lockport home’s amazing lights will have you saying ‘Wow!’
