Buffalo Barre offers friendship and exercise for women all over WNY

Exercise isn’t a lifestyle everyone is ready to accept, but it’s something we all need to work on not just to look our best, but to feel our best. While stepping into a new gym can be an overwhelming task, Buffalo Barre will get you in shape with a little help from your friends.

Exercise isn’t a lifestyle everyone is ready to accept, but it’s something we all need to work on not just to look our best, but to feel our best. While stepping into a new gym can be an overwhelming task, Buffalo Barre will get you in shape with a little help from your friends.

“There’s something to be said about strength in numbers and that’s what we offer here at Buffalo Barre,” said Maria McKendry, owner. “It’s been scientifically proven that working out in numbers is more effective and there’s a sisterhood created when a group struggles, sweats, and persists together.”

McKendry brought Buffalo Barre to WNY six years ago after trying a barre class in California. As a physical therapist for the past 22 years, she quickly understood what an impact a barre class could have on others. The high-energy boutique fitness studio for women which features barre, pilates, yoga, dance cardio, kickboxing, and HIIT classes, is unlike anything else you’ll find in the area and McKendry prides her success on that.

“We take care of each other here. We treat each other with kindness and respect, but we’re also going to push you to be your best self. Some of the women who come to my class are half the age of others and notice the older women…just seeing that type of dedication motivates you to do better and that’s what we offer,” she said.

But Buffalo Barre isn’t just beneficial for a women’s physical health. The ability to be surrounded by other women who are motivating you to do great things is amazing for their mental health, too.

“A woman in my class who just completed the Bikini Body Challenge said she started Buffalo Barre a year ago because she saw a special online. She had younger children and her marriage was failing and she needed to do something for herself and be surrounded by like-minded women, so she gave it a try. She truly felt Buffalo Barre saved her marriage and she lost a lot of weight in the process. That story right there tells me we’re doing something right.”

Buffalo Barre offers different fitness levels for all age ranges, including a library of online workouts for those who cannot physically attend a class. The fitness studio is also nationally accredited to offer barre certification classes for those who want to be become an instructor.
