The Open Bionics Foundation has chosen three children to receive “ HERO ARMS” The Open Bionics Foundations is providing $25,000, The Lucky Finn Project is providing $ 25,000, and the three families have to raise $ 22,000. These are children who were born without an arm.
Josiah is the only child from Buffalo who was chosen! Josiah is a very active child who loves sports and outdoor activities!
He is currently on a travel soccer team which he began playing at 3.
He also loves skateboarding, swimming, dirt bike riding, wall climbing, and playing video games. He also plays basketball and football for fun but in the future he is hoping he will be able to join a team!
The Hero Arm would be a great fit for
Josiah because he has been desiring a prothesis that is lighter in weight so that he is able to tolerate it for longer periods of time, create more use due to having more function, and being able to wear it for all seasons due to having more ventilation.
Info from Anissa:
“Originally when my son was younger and the Hero Arm came about I reached out to see how I would be able to obtain one for him. At that time he was too little . Daniel whom is a clinician and Open Bionics in NYC reached out to me in the beginning of this year asking if I was still interested which of course I was! Me and my son Josiah met and had a televisit since their office (closest one) is in NYC. After running his insurance it was not covered. And there wasn’t any out of pocket expenses. So I would have to raise the money or figure out how to get the money. The arm itself cost 24k. He linked me with Sarah because she was knowledgeable with crowdfunding. After talking through email she reached back out and told me that they were running the Big Hero 3 campaign this year in USA. Typically it was done only in the UK. They were selecting 3 families to help run a crowdfunding donation. I put the application in and Josiah was chosen.”
