Special Spaces in need of sponsors to provide room makeovers for children battling cancer

Special Spaces is a very special organization here in Western New York that provides incredible bedroom transformations for children battling cancer. Now they need the community’s support to continue their mission.

Eight-year-old Shea DeVinney received a Special Spaces Room Makeover two summers ago.

Shea is legally blind from an Optic Glioma. This type of brain tumor is most commonly found in people with Neurofibromatosis. NF is a progressive genetic condition in which tumors grow along nerve endings in the body. She has undergone a year of chemo which started at 16 months of age. Luckily, treatment shrunk her tumor significantly, she still has this tumor which they monitor closely and will always have to do. Shea is currently doing well! Her port came out a couple of weeks ago!

Local businesses or individuals can sponsor a room to bring a huge smiles to children battling cancer.

Shea and her mom Marlee shared what it meant to them to have the unicorn room makeover and what the process was like on the Sweet Buffalo segment on News 4 Buffalo.

Each room costs about $5,000 to sponsor and with so many children referred, it adds up. That’s why support is so important to the Special Spaces mission.

Special Spaces also has a golf tournament on Aug. 26 to support their mission.
