For the past two years Sweet Buffalo has teamed up with Christmas Blessing, a program of Be A Blessing Buffalo, to provide gifts to children and families in need before the holidays. What is Christmas Blessing you may ask? Well it’s a beautiful initiative started by the Tolley Family.
A few years ago the Tolley sisters of Buffalo lost their father John Tolley unexpectedly. John always thought that giving presents to family members was a silly idea and preferred that his family use their time and money to give back instead. When he sadly left this world, his daughters went on a mission to provide Christmas to children living at homeless shelters in Buffalo, N.Y. in their father’s memory.
Christmas Blessing quickly grew and became a community effort to give back. Local business owners collect donations for children inside their locations starting in November.
”This year we have more than 20 locations that are eager to help. This is truly the City of Good Neighbors,” said Kimberly LaRussa, founder of Sweet Buffalo.
”If my dad was here to see how much Christmas Blessing has made a difference to so many children and families he would have tears in his eyes. We are so grateful we are able to give back in his memory,” said Kate Tolley, founder of Be A Blessing Buffalo.
Donations will be collected until Dec. 22. Please check each locations hours before dropping off. Sweet Buffalo and Be A Blessing Buffalo are hoping to help 500 families this year. Once the gifts are picked up, they are wrapped and distributed to children at homeless shelters and gifted to children battling illness. In addition to toys, hats, gloves, toiletries and new backpacks are gratefully accepted for the men and women in Code Blue.
