With the holidays fast approaching, many of us are left wondering what the heck am I going to buy for the person who has it all? Well at The Giftery in East Aurora, a local business owner has you covered.
Vicky Leader, who worked as a nurse for the past 17 years, knows a thing or two about making others happy. After working a long shift of taking care of patients, she would come home and put together an elaborate gift basket to brighten someone’s day.
“I started doing it eight or nine years ago and it became a passion of mine,” said Leader. “Many people would say, ‘I bought this and I don’t know what else to put with it’ and I would come up with something special for them.”
One of the most memorable gift baskets Vicki put together was a candy bouquet with two dozen roses and an engagement ring tucked inside.
“He was my first client and we put the ring in the bouquet. It took his girlfriend a few days before she realized it was there,” she laughed.
And so her mission of personalizing gifts took off and just three weeks ago, Leader was able to open her own store, The Giftery, located at 681 Millard Fillmore Place, East Aurora. Here she puts together all kinds of gift baskets. From custom pens to coffee mugs, candles, wooden signs, chocolate, ornaments and more, there’s nothing Leader can’t customize for you.
“The possibilities are endless,” she remarked.
Leader says it’s always been her dream to open up a mom and pop shop and to have something of her own. Now she spends her days coming up with ways to make someone happy, a job she says is more than rewarding.
“That feeling that you get when a customer sends you a photo of the person who received the gift and they have a huge smile on their face is priceless,” she said. “I went into nursing because I wanted to bring comfort and care to others and this is a close second. Anyone can give someone a present, but giving someone a present that was put together from the heart is really special.”
