JetBlue gives flight refund to local boy fighting cancer

Andrew Masse needed a getaway more than anything. The young boy is fighting brain cancer for the third time and with all the hardships he's faced, he and his family just wanted some sunshine and fun in beautiful Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Andrew Masse needed a getaway more than anything. The young boy is fighting brain cancer for the third time and with all the hardships he’s faced, he and his family just wanted some sunshine and fun in beautiful Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Of course this trip would be difficult for Andrew as how he might feel is unpredictable, but Andrew wanted to bravely take the trip anyways. Knowing that he might get sick from his travels, Andrew’s mother, Jennifer, asked JetBlue for assistance getting him through the airport. JetBlue staff was more than accommodating to Andrew and his family – even letting him visit the cockpit. But what JetBlue did when Andrew got home was the most heartwarming of all. Read the email Jennifer received below:

Hello Jennifer,

This is Terri from JetBlue, you may have already checked your voicemail and are aware of the information I left for you. As I mentioned in a message; I am recapping the information via email. 

We are following up to let you know that your story, and Andrew’s cute smiling face touched us deeply. We can’t imagine the struggles you’ve been through as you face a brain cancer diagnosis for the third time for your son Andrew.

We were pleased to know Andrew chose to go ahead with the vacation even when he knew he may not feel well, and we were so happy to be a part of the family event!

Jennifer, word of Andrew’s situation spread to our leadership at JetBlue, and today I was given the opportunity to let you know that we have refunded all of the airfare paid for his trip back to the purchasing credit card. Please allow up to ten business days for the refund to show to your account online.

We hope you made some amazing memories and had good experiences to reflect on. Great memories can brighten days that are spent on doctor visits and treatments.

Thanks for allowing us this privilege. We are honored, and look forward to welcoming you onboard JetBlue again when the time is right! 

Andrew’s mom was overwhelmed with gratitude for JetBlue’s generosity in thinking of her sweet boy.

“All I was hoping for was permission to use the handicapped line. JetBlue went above and beyond,” said Jennifer.
