A local group of do-gooders have been working tirelessly to create a very special event to benefit a 10-year-old Alden boy who is battling terminal cancer.
“We just wanted to do something special to help him. He’s touched our heart,” said Laurie Ehlenfield.
Ehlenfield, Dave Schultz, Tabitha Zwolenkiewicz, Katlin Pietrzak, Ryan Chapman and Chris and Christine Maussner are all members of the Sweet Buffalo Rocks group who have decided to put their love of painting rocks to good use. They are hosting a ‘Rockin’ Egg Hunt’ charity event 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 31 at Harlem Road Park, 211 Harlem Road, Cheektowaga to raise funds for TJ Ackley. So far they’ve painted about 300 rocks that will be given to children who attend the event.
“Here’s how it works. We are hiding eggs with numbers and the numbers match a rock,” said Ehlenfield.
With a $3 donation you can go out, find an egg that has a number in it, bring it right back to a table to match the number to one of the painted rocks and take it home!
“We will also will have several baskets for our Chinese auction, donuts and drinks for the kids, and a rock trade and meet and greet with Easter Bunny and friends,” said Ehlenfield.
