Tiny Treasures Day Care Center, located at 1287 Military Road in Kenmore, recently celebrated its 35th anniversary and their secret for success is a simple, but meaningful one.
“We always want to make sure we put families first,” said Debbie Sciandra, owner. “It wasn’t just about making money. We knew if we put children and families first, the business would be successful.”
Tiny Treasures was originally founded on July 9, 1984 by Town of Tonawanda residents Ronald and Debbie Sciandra and their business partner, Debi Beaumont. The trio worked together at another local day care prior to opening their own day care. Beaumont ran the day-to-day operations as owner/director for over 30 years and built the day care’s reputation of a loving, caring and family-focused environment to bring families most “treasured” little ones.
“We looked at the building on Military here. It was the former Currier Express building,” said Sciandra. “We walked through the building and described what each room would look like and three years later our realtor came back and said, ‘I cannot believe exactly what you described is here. Room by room.’”
In five months the building was rehabbed with help from family and friends the day care was approved to open. Twenty families joined the first month and it continued to evolve.
“It’s been a labor of love since then,” said Sciandra. “We pride ourselves on being a business that gives parents peace of mind when they know their children are in good hands.”
Tiny Treasures is now family owned and operated by Debbie Sciandra and her two daughters who handle day-to-day operations. Aside from family, Tiny Treasures has retained quality employees who have stayed with the business throughout the years.
“We’ve definitely had long-term stability as far as employees,” said Sciandra. “We’ve had one employee work until she was in her early 70s for almost 30 years and we’ve had employees who have stayed with us 20-years plus. And not only do we have our former children come back as employees, we have our former children coming back to bring their children, so it’s been really amazing for us.”
Tiny Treasures also values its ability to help each and every family with their unique scheduling needs during ever-changing economic times.
“We serve middle-income families, so we’ve always tried to be as flexible and reasonable with our parents. We are one of the few daycares in town that allow part-time, part-days as well. Some parents don’t need to put their child in daycare full-time, but do need part-time day care services and our flexibility have allowed us to accommodate these families.”
Debbie and her family plan to continue providing family focused day care to local families for many years to come.
Open enrollment for children ages 6 to 4 years old is now available. Social Services accepted. For more information on Tiny Treasures Day Care Center, call 716-877-1351 or visit www.tinytreasuresbuffalo.com. You can also like their Facebook page.
