Born and bred in Western New York, Jeff Ware, former account representative for Boston Beer Company, always knew he wanted to make a difference in his community.
“I moved away to Brooklyn for five years and we would come back to visit Buffalo and you could just feel the palpable change,” said Ware. “It went from a woe is me attitude to a can do attitude.”
Ware channeled the positive energy he felt into a successful business plan that would incorporate his love for Buffalo with the community’s love for delicious fresh brewed beer.
“People were getting excited and I felt like something was starting to change here and ‘Resurgence’ felt like a fitting name,” he said.
Resurgence Brewing Company, located at 1250 Niagara Street, Buffalo will be celebrating its second anniversary on Saturday. Offering a traditional taproom and biergarten that serves only the finest unique flavored beers Buffalo has to offer, Resurgence is the go-to destination for beer enthusiasts and Western New York lovers alike.
“Nothing we do here is about money,” said Ware. “What we are doing is creating something cool for a city that looks to rebrand itself. We wanted to be the spoke in the wheel for that rebranding and hopefully we will inspire others to do something unique and follow their dreams.”
So, what’s Ware’s favorite part of working with a team of brewers that all have a passion for the industry?
“The most fun part of brewing is experimentation,” he said. “No one wants to make the same thing every day, so we are always coming up with cool unique options for people to enjoy and when you hit a home run, it’s a great feeling.”
Resurgence Brewing Company also hosts events throughout the year for the community to help in their experimentation. A quarterly Kegs and Eggs brunch and beer event allows Ware to engage his customers in the beer making process.
“Beer is supposed to be fun,” said Ware. “So, we have our staff members try the very first version of a beer and then we will clean that up with seven or eight batches depending on the beer and then we come out with that version on tap and then the final version, customers taste.”
Resurgence will be hosting an all day anniversary party starting from 1 p.m. to close on Saturday, Jan.18. The event will feature a ceremonial tapping of its specialty Anniversary Ale, live music, food trucks, throwback beers, giveaways, and more.
“I can’t wait for this Saturday,” said Ware. “We are celebrating the fact that we are still thriving and doing well.”
