Have I ever told you how awesome I think West Seneca PD is? I’ve written for many towns in Western New York, but one of my favorite places to write for was West Seneca because every week I had the chance to hang out at West Seneca PD. From the police officers, to the record keepers, and maintenance workers, there was always a friendly face waiting to say hello when I stopped by. When I was pregnant, the chief even asked his officers to help me with my car seat so I could make sure my bundle of joy was safe and sound for his first car ride home. They are just simply awesome people and I loved working with them.
But enough about me. Back to the story.
In December 2015, WSPD was called to a home for a domestic disturbance. Upon their arrival, the suspect was nowhere to be found, but 70 counterfeit name brand fleece jackets were found at the residence. The officers seized the goods and upon the arrest of the suspect, the jackets became property of WSPD.
Flash forward to 2017, and the wonderful men and women of WSPD are now donating these jackets to Haven House, an organization that provides safe housing to domestic violence victims. In order for them to be worn legally, the logos had to be covered up, so Chief Daniel Denz compensated Tom and Luigi’s Tailor Shop on Seneca Street to fix the jackets.
“When Captain Patrick Shea came to me with this idea, I thought it was a no brainer,” says Denz. “He got the DA’s office involved and then approached Tom at the tailor shop with the plan. Captain Shea explained to Tom how we had to cover up the counterfeit logos before we could give them to Haven House, and he immediately got on board. This is a win for everyone.”
When most women and children come to the Haven House, they often only come with the clothes on their backs. Having these jackets available to offer them in the cold winter months is simply amazing.
