It was Tuesday, Sept. 12 when Darcey McCormick of Cheektowaga found out she had stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
“My mom is a very outgoing, fun, very loving woman who would do anything for absolutely anyone and she was very scared at first. I knew I had to be there for her,” said Brittney McCormick, daughter.
Darcey worked in the healthcare friend at Brylin Hospital for the past 10 years where she spent her time taking care of others. Now her family and friends wanted to make sure they took care of her by showing their love and support in a very beautiful way.
“Before she started the chemo she wanted to shave her hair and we all shaved our heads for her, too, said Brittney McCormick, daughter.
Darcey’s daughter, along with her best friend, her best friend’s husband, and her daughter’s best friend went bald to show Darcey she wasn’t alone. Thankfully, chemo is working and it it has shrunk by half already. The family will know more on Jan. 26.
In the meantime, medical bills continue to pile up, so a benefit for Darcey will be held 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at Matthew Glab Post 1477, 1965 Abbott Road, Lackawanna. Tickets are $20 each. Call Brittney at 716-997-6710 for more information. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
