Nicole Raymond has spent many years helping and rescuing local animals, so when her dog, Wasabi, became suddenly ill she was devastated.
“He was my world,” said Raymond.
Raymond took Wasabi straight to the hospital and collected all of the money she could for his surgery. Even the community tried to help by donating funds, but unfortunately Wasabi passed away.
“She was my best friend, the reason I rescue and do what I do,” she said.
Heartbroken, Raymond stayed home the next day to grieve. But while scrolling through her Facebook, she came upon a post that she couldn’t sit back for.
“Sitting here crying about Wasabi, scrolling through my newsfeed and a dog, Zues, missing from Niagara Falls since Dec. 12 was spotted on Green Road and Mt. Hope on the Rez. I was moved from my couch to go look for this guy. Grabbed the slip lead from the hospital and some treats and ran out of the house.”
Raymond went to the exact location posted and immediately came upon paw prints guiding her to where the lost dog was.
“Never found a lost dog so quickly. Thank you Wasabi for guiding me. I know it was you and you will still be there tracking lost dogs my sweet girl.”
Zues is now home safe with his owners. Raymond is still heartbroken, but says in that moment her heart was filled with joy.
“A very long month later, Zues is home safe where he belongs. Thank you, Wasabi, my angel. I know it was all you.”
