It may not be Christmas, but Santa gave the Buffalo Zoo a brand new baby reindeer. The boy, who has yet to be named, was born on April 18 to mom Solara and dad Apollo.
This is a very exciting time for mom and dad as it is their first baby. Zoo keepers say the calf is doing wonderful. He is a curious little guy who enjoys exploring the yard and staying close to his mom.
The Buffalo Zoo will be holding a public naming contest for the calf and the public can cast their vote on the zoo’s social media pages. The name will be announced at noon Sunday, May 14.
“We are always very excited when a new baby animal arrives here at the zoo,” said Todd Geise, director of marketing. “The public gets just as excited and it’s great to involve them in the naming process, they really feel a part of the zoo family that way.”
