Bald eagle saved by caring community

Animals are our friends and as humans it’s our job to take care of them, which is why the community went above and beyond to help an injured bald eagle recently.

Animals are our friends and as humans it’s our job to take care of them, which is why the community went above and beyond to help an injured bald eagle recently.

The eagle was found floating in the Genesee River in the Southern tier last weekend. The Seneca Nations of Indians Fish & Wildlife pulled the bird out of the river and it was brought to Wild Spirit Education for rehabilitation. Wild Spirit had their hands full as the bird suffered a puncture wound in its shoulder. They stabilized the wing until they could get the eagle to a doctor.

Two doctors, Dr. Scott Nachbar of Springville and Dr. Laura Wade of Clarence, assisted in taking care of the eagle and it is now doing well. They say the wing will heal in time, but it is unknown if the eagle will be releasable. Wild Spirit is taking good care of the eagle in the meantime while it heals.

Donations of fish as well as monetary donations to help pay for medicine and food for the eagle are being accepted. Donations can be made online at www.wildspirit.org/support. You may also view the eagle’s progress at www.facebook.com/wildspiriteducation.
