Sometimes a picture says a thousand words, and in the case of a photo of a Hurricane Harvey victim hugging a WNY Red Cross representative in Texas – it certainly does.
“To me, the hug made me proud to be a representative of the Red Cross because that’s who it was directed at, not me. She and her husband were so happy, grateful for even a little help. It’s inspiring to know that’s what our volunteers do every day across the country,” said Jay Bonafede, Chief Communications Officer.
The Red Cross is made up of 90 percent volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time to helping others during their time of need, but they can’t do it without your help. The nonprofit has been able to help many in Texas through donations and they will continue to do so for others now that Hurricane Irma has hit.
