A local woman is asking for help in making her father smile. John Darowz of Buffalo just had his second brain surgery and is now entering into medical rehab. His birthday is June 12 and his daughter would love to make it special for him. Darowz has been well-known in the city of Buffalo for many years with his business X-Cel Produce, a deli with “the best sandwiches,” his daughter said.
Darowz is also a U.S. Navy veteran. His colorful character was an attraction for many that walked through the deli doors for 25+ years. Just a few months ago it was mentioned how Elmwood was still missing his legendary sandwiches, salads and soups. But his daughter said there was something many people did not know about her dad.
He quietly donated food to homeless and churches for many years, and he even helped navigate starting local animal welfare group for homeless dogs and cats. If he found a stray on Elmwood, he would feed them and make sure they were safe until at the shelter and check on them until adopted and support that animal too. When visiting others, he always had a bag of goodies when stopping by and great conversation too, still does.
He had his first brain surgery 8 years ago and successfully beat brain cancer. Sadly, the brain tumor came back last month and was removed and now he will be spending his birthday, June 12th in medical rehab getting stronger.
His daughter, Danielle, thought it would be a great idea to send happy birthday wishes to brighten his day because he has done this for so many over the years.
