It was a terrible week for one North Tonawanda volunteer firefighter. After being a kind person who volunteered his time selflessly to assist others in need, Ken Walker of North Tonawanda, received an anonymous racist and hateful letter in the mail telling him to resign from his volunteer position or else he would regret it.
If that wasn’t bad enough, just a few days later, Walker’s apartment went on fire. Thankfully his family was not home at the time of the fire, but the Walkers have now lost everything.
It is uncertain yet whether the two incidents are related, but either way, the community is banning together to ensure Walker and his family are okay during this difficult time. Gratwick Hose Volunteer Fire Company will be accepting donations for the Walker Family 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7 at 110 Ward Road, North Tonawanda. You may call Gratwick Hose Volunteer Fire Company at 692-9675 for more information on how you can help.
Walker has two young girls, ages six-years-old and nine-month-old. Clothes, bottles, diapers, toys, and more would be of great help.
On a post made on his Facebook page today, Walker said all of the support is much appreciated. He said his family is strong and they will get through it.
