IGNITE 2017 Awards Luncheon to celebrate women business owners in WNY

What a beautiful thing it is when women take the time to empower other women. On Thursday, March 2, that’s exactly what many WNY women will be doing at the IGNITE 2017 Awards Luncheon hosted by the Women’s Business Center at Canisius College.

“So often I find that women business owners try to go at it alone just because that’s what they do. They’re smart and they’re go-getters and they are trying to get after it, but they don’t realize that there’s a lot of people and resources that can help them so it’s not as difficult to reach their goals,” said Sara Vescio, executive director for the WBC.

The IGNITE 2017 Awards Luncheon will allow small business owners to make business connections that will help them further their business. It will also celebrate the contributions these women owned businesses make to our community.

“What we aim to do at this event is bring WBC resources, our connections of the community, those support systems that exist and match them up at each table with small business owners,” said Vescio. “Our focus at the Women’s Business Center is always to help women owned businesses learn to grow by giving them the tools they need to get to the growth they want, but also to make the connections; so that they can learn from one another and build further business connections.”

Vescio and members of the WBC have a sincere understanding that small businesses drive our economy. They want to see women succeed and fulfill their dreams and they will do anything they can to inspire them along the way.

“There are a ton of women owned businesses doing their thing – running their own business here right in WNY – and we need to acknowledge that and all that they contribute,” she said.

The IGNITE 2017 Awards Luncheon will take place 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 2 at Montante Cultural Center at Canisius College, 2001 Main St., Buffalo. The cost to attend is $50. Visit thewomensbusinesscenter.com/ignite-2017/ to register.

Through the WBC’s 90+ programs last year, more than 1,000 participants were helped; resulting directly in more than a dozen new businesses launched, six businesses accessed capital for growth, more than $2 million in revenue growth and $21 million in gross sales.
