Stacy Jo Pipiles recently received a letter from Unyts thanking her for donating her new baby’s placenta, but do you why someone would donate a placenta?
We didn’t either, so we looked into it.
According to Unyts, birth tissue donations give the gift of healing. Following a planned cesearean section, the placenta and umbilical cord can aid in healing after various surgical procedures and help burn victims. Pipiles recently read about this and although her c-section wasn’t planned, as soon as she found out she was having one she wanted to help.
“I called the day before I went in, told them I was being induced and did the questionnaire over phone and told them I would call them if I had to have a c-section which I did from the delivery room. They didn’t make it in time, but they would have been able to take it and use it had there been enough time. I donate blood with Unyts all the time and I saw a pamphlet on it and looked into it. I don’t think they advertise this enough,” she said.
Pipiles said she appreciated her thank you letter from Unyts even though they did not have enough time to get her donation.
“I’m proud to be an organ donor,” she said.
