Now this is a story we like to write about. Los Angeles filmmaker, Jon Mancinetti, is bringing his movie screening, ‘Loss and Found’ to the Riviera Theatre on Wednesday, April 11 to benefit two local rescue organizations — Fix A Bull WNY and Diamonds in the Ruff.
“We are delighted to have Jon bring his movie screening to Buffalo to help us raise funds in order to help dogs thru the spay/neuter program Fix A Bull, and adoptable dogs thru Diamonds in the Ruff,” said Suzanne Laba of Fix A Bull. “It’s a great collaborative effort between the groups to raise awareness of adoption, spay/neuter, pit bull awareness and efforts to increase foster homes and /or donations to help groups going strong. It’s a great evening out to not only support us, but to have some fun, meet the filmmaker and support local establishments that help small non for profits raise much needed funds.”
According to Laba, there are currently 50 dogs on a waiting list for the spay/neuter program thru Fix A Bull and money raised will help cover these much needed surgeries. Bully breed dogs are the most overbreed dogs and far too often, they overcrowd the shelters which increases the chances of euthanasia due to overpopulation. Many folks that apply to the program are “one man” rescue people who take in dogs to their homes instead of a shelter but do not have the means to pay for the surgery.
“It’s a cycle that we are trying to help with behind the scenes,” she said. “Diamonds in the Ruff always need funds for medical needs, foster homes, and the ability to pull dogs from situations and give them a chance to go up for adoption. They work tirelessly to help where they can and give opportunities to dogs to find that ‘furever’ home.
Jon took an opportunity from a “loss” in life and turned it into a positive by fostering, educating, and adopting another shelter dog. He made this short film to raise awareness and help others.
“We are all volunteers trying to make a small difference in the big world of rescue by trying to save one animal at a time,” said Laba.
The benefit screening will take place 7 p.m. April 11 at the Riviera Theatre. A ‘pup crawl’ will take place at 5 p.m. at Canal Club with an after party at Dockside. Every ticket will include a 15 percent off ticket for food and drink at the restaurants. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go towards the two animal organizations.
