You remember sweet Mikey Barone, the boy who hasn’t left the hospital since he was born. His mom placed a Christmas tree of lights outside of his window to let everyone know he wished them a merry Christmas. Mikey become a superstar here in Buffalo after his story went viral and now he’s almost set to go home – maybe even Monday!
Mikey was born at 1 pound, 10 ounces. He did 10 months in the NICU, 5 months in PICU, and he is now on the 10th floor; hopefully on his way home soon.
It’s been quite the journey for the Barone family who never gave up hope on their son. There were many times when they were told there might not be any hope, but they stood strong and knew their sweet boy would pull through. Now what Mikey’s mom is looking forward to most when she gets home is going for a real walk with her son.
Being isolated for so long, you take pleasure in the little things in life, like talking to someone else who understands your story.
“We met up with parents of a trach baby and it was just nice to vent about vents,” joked Kristine.
But what obstacles will the Barone family face when they get home? Besides getting used to their new way of life, the Barones expect to recieve a very hefty hospital bill since they’ve been staying there for 18 months. They won’t know the exact amount until they go home.
