For the past five years, AmandaLee Shamrock of North Buffalo has devoted her life to enhancing the beauty of others.
“Makeup is my livelihood,” said Shamrock. “It’s my love.”
Shamrock says she’s always loved doing makeup since she was a teenager. She was interested in the editorial side of makeup, “The stuff that didn’t make any sense on someone’s face.” But after being introduced to the bridal makeup profession, Shamrock couldn’t get enough. She’s done makeup for brides and bridesmaids of more than 60 weddings.
“I love the transformation and when people look in the mirror and say, ‘Wow!’ and they get that moment. I think that’s my favorite,” Shamrock said.
So how does she handle the pressure of making sure a bride looks their ultimate best on the biggest day of their life? Shamrock says it’s all about listening to her client’s needs.
“I always ask them what their ‘Glamfactor’ is and what they are comfortable with before I start, but everyone is always very happy,” she said. “I always get great reactions, which I’m lucky to have.”
Shamrock says she always tells her brides to exfoliate before their wedding, so the makeup sits better on their face. No self tanning right before the wedding is always a good idea and brushing your lips, so the lipstick application looks amazing on your special day.
“You want a nice base before you start because if you don’t have a nice base it’s not going to come out as nice,” she said.
The talented young woman is constantly educating herself on the latest makeup trends. She is involved in several forums and groups where she learns from professionals how to use new products. She looks forward to continuing her passion for many years to come.
“I just want to be there to make people look beautiful,” said Shamrock. “Every time I do someone’s makeup it just keeps getting better and better.”
