A special car group called WNY Hot Rods Customs & Classics went from a Facebook group that organized gatherings of classic cars to a full-blown 501(c)(3) charity that “Cruises for a Cause” to help nonprofit organizations across WNY in just one year!
Steve Barnes is the founder of WNY Hot Rods Custom & Classics. He has made it his mission to turn a hobby and love for cars into an organization that does good for the community. Last summer Barnes picked a charity each week to donate to from car cruises and this year he’s hosting his own events. WNY Hot Rods Customs & Classics has an event coming up June 5 called the Field of Dreams Car SuperCruise, one on June 26 called the Supershow at the Shrine, the SuperCruise Carnival at the Great Pumpkin Farm on July 3 and on Aug. 29 there’s one to benefit Meals on Wheels Niagara Falls! Steve’s wife even came up with the brilliant idea to have a Nostalgia Cruise Night at the Transit Drive-In to watch American Grafitti. And when he’s not hosting his own events, Barnes uses his Facebook group to get car enthusiasts excited about other events being held for charity in the community.
