A local nonprofit is on a mission to help children battling serious or terminal illness. They are called the Brave Little Fighters Foundation and their mission is to create a place of belonging for children that increase their hope and happiness during a difficult time.
“We aim to ease the heartache, uncertainty, and challenges faced by children by offering outings year round, free of charge. Brave Little Fighters face a range of illnesses including cancer, cystic fibrosis, spina bifida, chiari malformation, neurological disorders, rheumatic diseases and other serious terminal illnesses,” Agnello explained.
Outings include sports games, art and cooking classes, trips to theme parks and more. Agnello started Brave Little Fighters recently, but the work she is doing is not new to her. In November of 2018, her job working with sick children ended suddenly after 10 years. She was saddened to say the least, especially because the children she served in WNY would no longer have an organization to go to for help. But instead of letting this be a fond memory, Agnello decided to forge ahead.
“I knew what I needed to do and although it would be challenging road ahead, within three weeks I established BLFF. Despite having no funding in our initial months, I worked hard to establish our roots and grow the number of families we could impact,” said Agnello.
In less than one year, BLFF held 20 outings and continues to host many more. They are now reaching out to the community to find more families who would like to become part of the Brave Little Fighters family and attend these outings free of charge.
