A Lancaster neighborhood that seeks to brighten the day for those who pass by more than 300 beautifully decorated homes during Christmas has hit a record. Every year, Stonybrook Shines works hard to raise funds for various local children’s charities and this year they chose Devin’s Message, a nonprofit that takes a stand against bullying in memory of Devin Kurzdorfer, a sophomore at Kenmore West who took his own life. The nonprofit seeks to ensure that others who suffer from bullying do not share his fate.
On Facebook yesterday, Stonybrook announced that they raised close to $40,000 for the organization. They posted the following:
“Thank you to everyone who was involved with Stony Brook Shines for Others, 2019. We appreciated all of the help from local media, businesses and the community coming out to see the lights. This year was a record breaker! The official total money raised was $38,677.80 for Devin’s Message. Bullying and teen suicide CANNOT be ignored…RIP Devin, we know you are smiling!!!!”
