It’s an exciting time for one local dog rescue as the Better Days Are Coming Adoption Center has opened its doors at 28 Bouck St.,Tonawanda!
Carlise Schweitzer, founder of Better Days Are Coming Dog Rescue, says opening up her own location for dog rescues and adoptions is a dream come true.
“It just happened to fall into my lap. For years I have been hoping I’d find a place,” she said. “People may not know about their local rescues and now at least they can stop in and talk to someone in person and not have to hope for a call back.”
The rescue takes in many dogs from an area in Kentucky because the need is great. These dogs are roaming the streets and none are spayed or neutered or have any medical care. The rescue brings them back to Buffalo where they are well taken care of. Once they are all cleaned up, and happy and healthy, volunteers get them into loving indoor homes.
“I’m hoping people from all over stop in. Not just one area, but all of WNY,” said Schweitzer.
So what can the community do to help? Schweitzer says the possibilities are endless.
“We are in desperate need of volunteer help with home visits in all of WNY and fosters. As far as dog items, we need crates, dog food (Purina dog chow or puppy), chew bones, treats, dog beds, and toys. You name it, we need it.”
The rescue will be hosting a grand opening noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23. The event will include a meet and greet with dogs in need of adoption, a raffle, snacks, drinks, and baked goods. Those who bring a new dog item to donate during the grand opening weekend will be entered to win a basket of lottery tickets.
