Buffalo Magazine has launched “Reclaim You” – an opportunity for breast cancer survivors to enjoy a post-cancer style makeover.
Two survivors will be chosen for a free shopping experience with a personal stylist, visiting local boutiques that have offered to donate merchandise. Their personal journeys and style makeovers will be featured in the September/October issue of Buffalo Magazine.
Danielle Ossher, editor of Buffalo Magazine and a breast cancer survivor herself, came up with the idea of “Reclaim You” following her own experience recovering from breast cancer.
“Beating cancer is a difficult battle. But, reclaiming your life and your sense of self in cancer’s wake represents its own complex journey,” Ossher shares. “During recovery, when I looked in my closet and all the outfits that used to make me feel cute and confident no longer worked, I began this whole new journey of redefining my personal style.”
To celebrate Ossher’s five-year cancer-free milestone this year, Buffalo Magazine will help fellow breast cancer survivors refresh their personal style with a fun shopping spree designed especially for them at two local boutiques.
People can nominate themselves or someone they know. Two people will be selected for:
- A custom consult with fashion maven Erin Habes
- A personal shopping session with Erin at local boutiques — with your favorite pieces going home with you, free
- A collection of shop-local goodies
“For breast cancer survivors, surgeries and scars and new hair transform the canvas we’ve been working with for decades,” explains Ossher. “I told myself I wouldn’t let these changes get to me, but my self-confidence took a hit, not to mention my wardrobe. There’s power in a great outfit that makes you feel beautiful and strong. We all deserve that magic, but after cancer, it can take time to find it again.”
The nomination period for “Reclaim You” runs from now to May 31. Nominations are open to breast cancer survivors in the Western New York area.
