A Western New York realtor is hoping to give back to heroes by taking part in a cash back program called Heroes Home Advantage.
“Our goal is to give back to the brave men and women who have served our country, as well as first responders, law enforcement officers, doctors, educators and those in the medical field on their home purchase or sale,” said John Gatas, realtor at Keller Williams Realty.
Gatas recently learned about the nonprofit initiative in which realtors can give 25 percent of their commission to heroes who purchase or sell a home. Heroes can save money when they buy, sell or refinance a home. The program is open to military, law enforcement, firefighters, health care, emergency personnel and teachers.
“These heroes sacrifice so much for us every single day. They deserve to be recognized for their hard work to give us a better world and it is my honor to be able to assist them with their realty needs,” said Gatas.
Gatas did civilian work for the Small Business Administration from 2001 to 2013. His first field duty assignment was the 9/11 disaster in New York City where he witnessed heroes come together during an unspeakable tragedy.
“Seeing first hand what took place during 9/11 and also during Hurricane Katrina and Rita in 2005, just put things in perspective and gave me appreciation for the real heroes out there, those men and women who put their lives on the line every day for our health, safety and education of our kids,” said Gatas.
