Help local teen fly to Alaska to see mom who is on life support

Masin Field of Colden had to leave his family and home in Alaska after his mother became very sick. Now her illness has taken a turn for the worse and his aunt hopes to raise enough funds to bring Masin to see his mom.

Sometimes the bravest person in the world could be sitting right next to you and you’d never know it. That’s where one local teen comes to mind.

Sixteen-year-old Masin Field of Colden had to leave his family and home in Alaska last spring to move in with his aunt after his mother became gravely ill. Despite his hardship, Masin is a thriving student at Springville Griffith Institute and a varsity football player. His mom recently had to have major surgery for a brain abscess and an infection. His aunt, Millissa Field, is trying to raise enough funds so that Masin can visit his mom as she is currently on life support.

Here she shares his story.

“Masin has been living with me for 10 months. He and his mother knew her illness was overcoming her and it would be best for him to stay with me until she could get well. As difficult as this decision was to make, Masin knew it had to be done in order to secure his future and provide for his well being. His strength and determination amazed me as he left behind his mother and two siblings and headed towards Buffalo to start over. He has prospered here, helping to beat six school records in track his very first season and off to an amazing start in SGI football. His mother’s illness has taken a turn for the worse and she has had major brain and heart surgery and has been on a ventilator for seven days now. He and I and my father are desperately trying to get to Anchorage Alaska where his mother is. We have very little family there so it breaks our heart to know she wakes up alone every day. We need her to know how much we love her and to tell her to keep on fighting. That she has three beautiful, amazing, talented and loving children and an entire family who can’t wait to wrap their arms around her when she wakes up. Masin has never felt sorry for himself, I don’t think anyone even knows his story. He is strong and resilient, caring and kind.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Masin and family get to Alaska to be with his mom. If you would like to make a donation, visit www.gofundme.com/36-year-old-mother-and-3-kids.
