Yesterday we posted a story on our Facebook page that wasn’t sweet at all. In fact, it was heartbreaking. We recently surprised a 7-year-old boy named Harrison Hazlett with a visit from a kangaroo. Harrison has been battling cancer for a few years now and it’s sadly come back and is very aggressive.
Harrison was supposed to receive treatment on Monday, March 15 but his parents found out terrible news. The insurance company would not approve Harrison’s treatment. That’s where we stepped in to help share Harrison’s story and create a GoFundMe page for him.
In just one day, the community has raised more than $46,000 to cover Harrison’s treatment which is $2,400 a cycle.
“I am in shock at the amount that has been donated to help Harrison. We are very, very thankful for the incredible people coming together like this for him,” said Dayna Hazlett, Harrison’s mom.
Mr. Sizzle’s in Buffalo reached out to us and offered to do a fundraiser for Harrison. They will be donating $1 for every burger and shake sold for a month to help with the cost of treatment as well.
Buffalo is truly the City of Good Neighbors and we are so grateful to Sweet Buffalo’s followers for stepping up for kids who need them most. If you would like to make a donation to help Harrison, you can do so here.
