“They may not be paying the bill, but they are the ones we aim to please,” said Colleen Donovan, owner.
Custom K9, located at 5150 Broadway St., Depew (in the Dollar General Plaza), opened for business on March 15. Providing dogs with baths, grooming, training, and daycare with an experienced and loving staff, it’s no wonder that pups are excited to walk through Custom K9’s doors.
“We prioritize the wellbeing of the dog. Dogs are happy and content because we provide a safe environment and our staff knows how to handle different situations that arise with groups of dogs. We utilize a lot of different techniques to help calm the dogs using music and aroma therapy oils. It’s a different atmosphere than when you go to a big box store.”
Donovan has a staff of five who all previously worked at Canine and Company. When the business closed its doors, Donovan decided to embark on a new adventure with the people she trusted the most. These individuals all have a love for animals and work their hardest to provide the best possible service to the pups they meet.
“We made the executive decision to move forward as a team instead of going our separate ways. We knew this was our passion,” said Donovan.
Donovan says it’s been a whirlwind opening up her own business, but every step has been worth it. Having been involved in the pet care industry since 2006, it’s a dream come true for her to be able to work with the people she admires and the animals she adores.
“Some people spend their whole lives working at a desk and wishing they were somewhere else and here I am fulfilling my dreams of doing what I love the most. There’s nothing like it.”
