Homeless man lives outside of Buffalo shelter because he doesn’t want to abandon dog, can someone help?

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we have raised $1,000 to help the man’s dog. The case worker has many leads. The duo is on the way to better days, and they are receiving assistance. He has received numerous jobs and housing options.

It’s too often we hear of pet owners giving away their pets when life puts them in a different direction, which is why we were so touched when we heard a local homeless man is doing the exact opposite.

Kate Tolley, who shared this story with us, met a special man recently. Her mother is the manager of housing and employment at Buffalo City Mission and the two saw the man outside the shelter with his dog, King, and asked him his story. The man lives daily outside of the shelter because he couldn’t give his wonderful companion over to the SPCA and risk him being put to sleep. He just recently received funding to get him into an apartment and on his feet, but he needs a job and that’s where the community comes in.

“We just need to find him a job,” said Tolley. “He has previous experience in a kitchen, and as a janitor. He has worked his entire life, and wants to continue. Please let me know if you can help this man and his wonderful dog who both deserve a happy ending!”

The ideal location for the man would be somewhere near bus routes, Buffalo/Kenmore…anywhere really, as long as he and King can stay together.
