It’s an unspeakable tragedy.
Jamie Billquist had to say goodbye to his beautiful wife, Rosemary, after she was fatally shot in the woods in Sherman, N.Y. by a hunter who mistook her for a deer. While this is an extremely difficult time, Jamie says the support of the community has meant the world.
“I want to say thank you very much from my heart. It means a lot and I know she’s touched so many lives with her kindness and would help anyone no matter what,” said Jamie.
According to Chautauqua Police, Rosemary was shot by the hunter while walking her two dogs. The hunter called 9-1-1 after realizing what happened and stayed with her until paramedics arrived, but it was too late. Jamie is now holding onto the memory of his wife who he says brought so much joy to so many.
“I will miss you and love you forever and I know you’re dancing in heaven with your momma and all of our friends and family who we have lost,” he said.

A vigil was held for Rosemary on Thursday. Jamie said it took his breath away to see the Sherman community come together for her.
“She would have loved it,” he said.
