When the owner of Uncle G’s Ice Cream in Lockport heard her employee, Christine Laskowski, was part of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Student of the Year campaign in honor of her grandfather, she immediately knew she wanted to help.
“She asked me to be on her team and I said yes because I have a friend who has leukemia, too, and I wanted to support her and Christine. We named our team ‘Charlie’s Champions’ in honor of her grandpa, Charlie,” said Rachel Lindemann, owner.
Laskowski said it meant a lot to her that her boss wanted to help. Not only did her grandfather have to fight the awful disease that is cancer, her grandma is a breast cancer survivor as well. While her grandpa isn’t here, Laskowski says he’s always in her heart.
“He always made me laugh. He had these sayings, ‘grandpaisms’ as my family calls them. They were phrases and sayings that most of us didn’t know the meaning to, but they still made us laugh. He also always put family first. He was always asking about how school was going for me and what was going on in my life,” she said.
Now Uncle G’s is teaming up with Laskowski to raise money for LLS in honor of sweet Charlie. There will be a basket raffle, vendors, and other fun things things to raise funds!
“We have a cherry pie sundae and I will be donating a portion of those proceeds as well,” said Lindemann.
The fundraiser will be held 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Uncle G’s Ice Cream, located at 7030 Washington St., Lockport. For more information, call or text 315-414-8836.
