What better way to kick off the holiday season than by giving back to your local community? For several North Tonawanda High School alums, there’s no better feeling than helping those in need.
“We just kept thinking what else can we do to help our community this holiday season and we came up with Christmas Caroling for food donations to benefit the North Tonawanda Food Pantry,” said Jacob Brosius.
Every year the NT Christmas Carolers gather to fully decorate a 25-foot trailer with Christmas lights and decorations. The carolers dress up as Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, The Grinch, Snowman, and more. They then hop on the trailer pulled by their Christmas bus and sing and dance along to Christmas songs. The carolers start at NT High School and make their way all around North Tonawanda to collect food donations for those in need.
“Some people are on the trailer and then other people walk beside the trailer to collect food donations,” said Brosius. “We do this every Saturday in December, but this year we are starting earlier so we can participate in the NT tree lighting ceremony at the high school.”
NT Christmas Carolers will begin their caroling at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 28 and then every Saturday thereafter from 6 to 9:30 p.m. They will finish their caroling on Friday, Dec. 23.
“My absolute favorite thing to see is when the children look outside their window and you can see the huge smile on their face,” said Brosius. “That’s by far the greatest point.”
The NT Christmas Carolers will be accepting canned goods and personal hygiene items for the food pantry. Last year the carolers donated 1,500 items to the pantry and they hope to reach 3,000 this year. For more information on the NT Christmas Carolers, contact Jacob Brosius at 628-0725.
