Why I chose boudoir with Amanda Rosenberg

When you're young and carefree, life is full of endless possibilities for the future. It’s easy to feel confident and beautiful when you're still finding yourself in this big unknown world. You have time to create your image, show people who you are, and have fun without any hardcore responsibilities. But when you become a mother, things change.

When you’re young and carefree, life is full of endless possibilities for the future. It’s easy to feel confident and beautiful when you’re still finding yourself in this big unknown world. You have time to create your image, show people who you are, and have fun without any hardcore responsibilities.

But when you become a mother,  things change.

Now, I’m not trying to downplay how amazing being a mother truly is. There’s nothing like it on the planet. The love you receive from your mini you is like no other and I honestly don’t know what I was doing my whole life before I had my baby. True happiness started for my husband and I the day our baby was born.

However, that doesn’t mean the transition from ‘me’ to mommy was easy.

There are no more hours of getting ready and picking out the perfect outfit when you’re a mom. There is no more makeup and hair styling every day. There are no more fancy clothes and high heel shoes.

Your body changes, your mind changes, and don’t let me get started on those hormones.

While I love being a mother more than anything in this world and would happily take baby cuddles and tiny feet kisses over my womanly wants any day, I was a little sad that I didn’t feel like ‘me’ anymore. I felt like I lost my identity. I was no longer myself but instead a yoga pants wearing, sleep deprived, no fun zombie that would never feel or look pretty again.

So, I decided to do something to boost my confidence.

I watched a video posted on Facebook by Amanda Rosenberg, owner of Seventh Arrow Studio. It was of a woman that lacked the confidence she needed until she did a boudoir photoshoot and saw how beautiful she really was. I contacted Amanda to see if she had any availability for me to try one and she took me right under her wing.

I showed up at Amanda’s home in Lockport where her boudoir bedroom was all set up. She handed me a glass of wine. White pillows, white sheets, a white comforter and some beautiful purple orchards sat on a table beside me. We had spoken previously about what I was looking for in my shoot, which was really just some classy glamour photos of myself in a dress with the beautiful background of her studio room.

When I sat on the bed and Amanda started shooting and instructing me how to pose, I was hesitant to get into it. I hadn’t done any modeling in a really long time and I felt so awkward and uncomfortable. While I had been working out and eating better recently, mentally I still didn’t feel as confident as I should. She would tell me to smirk or make a sexy face and it just didn’t seem real to me. I’m not sexy. I’m a mom. That’s all I am.

Until she showed me the photos.

Each photo of myself was better than the next.

Every time she took a photo she would share it with me on her camera and my confidence grew a little more each time.

By the end of the shoot, when Amanda told me to smirk or be sexy, I sure as heck knew how. She asked me where it was coming from all of a sudden and I said, “Your photos. They are so amazing. I didn’t even know I could look like that.”

But it was me. It was me the whole time. While Amanda was able to photograph beautifully, it was the real me who was behind the camera. The woman who gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, but thought in the back of her mind she would never again see the woman she once was.

Now I can see her.
