If you don’t know who Lynz Munich is, I guarantee in a few years you will.
Munich is a senior at West Seneca West High School. When she’s not busy cramming for exams, she’s planning her next move to superstardom. From recording songs in her closet at home to attending Grammy Camp, Munich is constantly shooting for the stars.
“I love music and I really can’t picture myself doing anything else,” she said.
On Wednesday, May 25, Munich won the Lucille & Jack Yellen Foundation Songwriter’s Scholarship sponsored by the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in collaboration with the Lucille and Jack Yellen Foundation. The contest was open to high school and college students to submit an original song and perform it at the Hard Rock Cafe in Niagara Falls.
Munich was the first performer to step up to the mic and she had no idea she would be chosen as the winner. Four individuals were chosen to compete out of several entries, but Munich took home the honor.
“I didn’t have a lot of time to think about it really,” said Munich. “It didn’t hit me until I left and I’m gradually getting more excited about it as I’m digesting it.”
And as the saying goes, try, try, try again because this was actually the second time Munich applied to be in this contest. The first time she applied she wasn’t accepted, but this year Buffalo Hall of Fame emailed her to encourage her to enter the contest again.
So, she did.
“I received the email saying I was a finalist and I was going to perform at the showcase,” she said. “It was so exciting.”
As a winner, Munich will received a full day of recording session at GCR Audio, a studio owned by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls. She will also work with Buffalo Music Hall of Fame inductees and board members to record her winning song. The song will then be put on a c.d. and Munich will receive a spot on the upcoming Buffalo Music Hall of Fame compilation c.d. Not to mention, she will receive a paid performance at the Hard Rock Cafe.
“This is the first time I will record in a studio and not in my closet,” she laughed. “I’m looking forward to the big recording room. It’s pretty awesome.”
Not only does Munich sing and write her own songs, she also knows how to play several instruments.
“I play guitar, I mainly play acoustic,” said Munich. “I play the violin at school and I started on bass guitar before acoustic. It’s nice to have knowledge in all instruments because I prefer to do everything myself and record everything myself. I have yet to learn drums, but that’s on my bucket list.”
