In June of 2022 Sophia was diagnosed with a rare type of liver cancer, Hepatocellular Carcinoma. This cancer is so rare that it only affects 1 in 5,000,000 people in the U.S. Because it’s so rare there’s no treatment plan for it.
Thankfully she was able to get a clinical trial at Roswell and just finished eight rounds of chemo.
By the time the cancer was found, it had already spread to her lungs and lymph nodes, so she currently isn’t eligible for surgery. The doctors are hoping that between chemo and radiation, they’ll be able to shrink the legions enough for them to be operable.
Despite all of this, Sophia has maintained her faith through it all, and is extremely confident that she is going to beat this!
