Buffalo man competing in American Idol competition

Twenty-one-year-old Matt Wilson, born and raised in Buffalo NY, is a local artist who grew up singing R&B, Gospel and Pop music. He’s also a proud Afro-Latino and believes his love for music is influenced by both his African American and Puerto Rican culture.
Matt graduated from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts where he sang in both select choirs called “Vocal Symphony” and “Resonance”. Frequently, he and the singers would perform for Mayor Byron Brown and perform for different events happening around the city.
Matt is also an assistant teacher in the pre-k classroom of JCC Buffalo. He says he loves working with kids because of their energy and playful spirit.
He recently auditioned for this year’s 21st season of American Idol. The impression he left on the judges led him to be nominated for America’s platinum ticket. His dream is to make music his career someday to bless his family and his community.
With the traumatic events the city of Buffalo has faced, he also wishes to bring hope, healing and light to the city that has helped him stay hopeful and dream big.

He gives much of the credit of pursuing his dreams to his wife Meli who has always believed in him.
